Have you seen the latest print designs bursting with colour that have made their way into our Fabric Shop? These new delights are by artist and designer Katy Dee who is the powerhouse behind print-based label Shiztastic. All of Katy’s designs begin as an original artwork, using typically hand-painted and collage elements. Once the original pieces have been scanned, Katy then begins the process of layering, manipulating and arranging the elements in both Photoshop and Illustrator to create gorgeously playful prints. Her designs draw heavily from nature, kitsch and 80’s fashion and the simple joys which can be found in daily life and travels. Below we’ve the put the spotlight on each of Katy’s designs which are now available online, sharing ideas around what we think each design would be perfect for!
‘Pink Chintz’ is a big, bold floral design inspired by vintage wallpaper. The design features Katy’s favourite colour combination of red and pink, and with a design like this, it’s easy to see why this pairing is so adored. ‘Pink Chintz’ is a mid to large-scale design and provides a fun pop of colour for any wardrobe or space.
We’re getting strong female power suit vibes from this abstract floral, and think more is definitely more!

Next up is ‘Picnic Fun’, which is a playful print design full of fruity motifs that are in season all year round! This large-scale design features gorgeously hand-painted elements collaged together on a classic rug style background.
We think ‘Picnic Fun’ and a summer dress are a match made in heaven!

Move over leopard print, there’s a new kid on the block! ‘Wild Thing’ puts a funky twist on an animal print classic by using textural hand-painted brushstrokes and a statement colour palette. This is a mid-scale print that’s easy to wear.

We would love to see this design used for a half circle or A-line skirt and think it will work well either paired with a plain or patterned top. Dress this design up or down, either way you’ll make a statement.

Prepare for nostalgia! ‘Painted Love’ is inspired by the 80’s and a love for double denim. This fun take on a striped design is a mid-scale print and is suitable for both fashion and interiors.

‘Untangled’ features a beautiful colour palette of blues and pinks and inspired by a whimsical land of mazes. This mirrored print is simply stunning and so easy to get lost in it’s design. This large scale print is suitable for both fashion and interiors.
We’re wanting this magical design to carry us away into a slumber that is just as dreamy, and think chic loungewear and pajamas are the perfect way to use this print.

‘Leaf Glitter’ is a bold mid-scale botanic print with a retro feeling colour palette. Inspired by camping trips in the woods on a sunny winters day, with an imagined forest floor full of brightly coloured leaves and plants.
‘Leaf Glitter’ is just begging to be turned into a fabulous kimono, ideal for those days where the weather is a little undecided.

‘Sunset Garden Party’ pays homage to Katy’s mum’s garden, remembering it at sunset during an English Summer. The sun is setting, birds singing, and it feels as though all the charming flowers and plants are singing along too. This monochrome mid-scale print is a timeless design full of beautifully hand-painted textures and elements.
‘Sunset Garden Party’ would be a stunning choice for a shirt dress with it’s simple colour palette and bold graphic feel.

We couldn’t be happier with Katy being the first artist involved in The Designer Project, making a selection of her designs available in our Fabric Shop online. The possibilities are endless with each of these designs, and can easily be translated across both fashion and interiors. Our suggestions above are just initial ideas to get those creative juices flowing and can’t wait to see the versatility across all the creative projects you use these fabulous designs for!

We are just like you in this unfamiliar territory trying to keep going and carrying things on as normal as we can while keeping our staff and customers safe. We are a COVID safe business and can assure you that Digital Fabrics is open for business and will continue to operate and support our clients, community, and friends through these difficult times.
The current COVID restrictions have resulted in the reduction of our manufacturing capacity due to people working mostly from home, rather than from our studio. The expected turnaround for orders is now a little longer. Standard printing orders will now have a turnaround time of 7-10 working days and making orders 2-4 weeks depending on quantity and the fabric availability. Sample Packs dispatched within 3-4 working days via Aus Post (standard) and Express orders on request only.
For the time being, we also had to streamline our stock fabric range, with stock availability varying depending on demand, so not all fabrics are currently available. If you are after a particular fabric that is not in stock feel free to get in touch with us.
To further implement social distancing, we have stopped offering clients visits and order collections from our warehouse.
We offer order delivery via Aus Post and courier services, however, please keep in mind, delivery times of your order might be affected, as we know many logistics services are under tremendous pressure. If your project is urgent, please contact us before placing your order to discuss express order availability.

We’ve been really committed of late to sourcing gorgeous new fabrics to offer all of our customers, and are very pleased to introduce the second NEW addition to Digital Fabric’s polyester range – the Whisper. If you’ve been dreaming of a fantastic alternative to silk, with a hint of stretch and zero sheen, then this dreamy fabric’s for you!
Whisper is a light-weight fabric with a matte finish and a bright white base, which provides excellent colour reproduction when printed. The fabric’s smooth textured surface makes visible the fine details of designs making it perfect for prints with lots of elements and / or texture.
The fabric is a polyester / spandex blend with a good amount of stretch, and has an ultra-fine surface. Whisper’s feel and flexibility makes it a perfect choice for fashion garments and accessories as it is really comfortable to wear, and soft to touch. Whisper’s slinky, liquid-like drape makes it a great matte substitute for silk, and is most similar to our Dilly fabric. We think this fabric will be just perfect for scarves, skirts, dresses, blouses, lounge-wear, undergarments and soft accessories.

Lately we’ve been committed to finding gorgeous new fabrics that we can offer to all of our customers! After plenty of research, sourcing and testing we are very excited to announce that we have a NEW fabric! Introducing Digital Fabrics’ newest polyester fabric – the Oliver. For those looking for a new fashion fabric the Oliver is definitely something you’ll be interested in.
The Oliver is a lightweight, 127 GSM Polyester Spandex blend (95% Polyester / 5% Spandex), which provides the fabric with a little stretch, making it a really comfortable option for fashion garments. Oliver has a bright white base with a matte surface, which results in strong colour reproduction when printing! The fabric is breathable, super-soft to touch and has an excellent drape.
This fabric is ideal for fashion applications, especially for those designing easy to wear, relaxed garments. Oliver is perfect for dresses, skirts, tops, soft accessories and loose-fitting Activewear.

Not to be confused with our very popular Cotton Linen fabric, the Linen Deluxe is a mid-weight 220GSM fabric that is 100% linen. It has a bright white base making it perfect for optimum colour reproduction when printing. We just can’t get enough of how our test print designs look on the fabric’s surface.
The texture and drape of the Linen Deluxe perfectly embodies simplicity and elegance, whilst its softness makes it ideal for both furnishings and apparel. We think it would be ideal for shirts, blouses, pants, cushion covers, curtains, tablecloths and napkins.

We have a New Jersey fabric in stock replacing the old base. This is an exciting opportunity for those textile and fashion designers who are looking for a t-shirt like fabric to construct a garment, this fabric is suitable for women’s, mens and kids wear.
Jersey is a mid-weight 200 gsm fabric, not too heavy or light, with two way stretch jersey knit. It has nice drape, soft with a nice cotton-like hand.
The Fabric prints beautifully, with great colour representation and superb colour fastness.
Our fabulous New Jersey fabric is perfect for any t-shirt type’s garments and casual wear such as t-shirts, dresses, loose fit tops, singlets, cool weather scarves and baby clothes. This fabric also very well suited for home textiles: blankets, pillow cases or throw cushions.
NOTE: this fabric doesn’t have spandex and has only limited stretch capacity, this fabric will not be suitable for very tight garments such as leggings.

This year Digital Fabrics will be closed on 22rd of December and re-opened on 8th of January with a skeleton staff, production commencing on the 15th January 2018.
How about if you still want to order fabric? Don’t worry, we will be accepting all online orders during holiday to be printed when we are back in action in 2018.
After the holiday first orders will be due to dispatch on Wednesday the 17th January.

· 11th December – All fabric printing orders that needs to be shipped and delivered before holiday. As much as we would love to, we cannot guarantee that orders submitted after this date will reach to you on time before Christmas.
· 12th December – last Express order for fabric printing or Print and Make orders
Orders for delivery, submitted after 15th December more likely to be printed and dispatched in New Year unless it’s an express order.
Pick-up orders cut off time
· 11th December Print and Make orders such as cushion covers, banners, scarves etc
· 15th December fabric printing orders
· 18th December last express order for fabric printing or Print and Make orders.
3 pm is our daily production cut off time, which means, if you placed an order after 3 pm, your order will be rolled over to the next day. Be that just an extra little careful when planning your fabric printing orders.

Exciting news! We have a new competition for all Textile designers out there, budding or experienced. The theme is ‘Palm Springs’. We know, fun right?
Create a fabric design for ‘interiors’ or ‘fashion’ inspired by ‘Palm Springs’ using any method you want. This could be photograph, paint, collage, sketch and could be based on colour, texture, architecture or landscape, there are no boundaries. Let your creativity GO WILD!
There will be 3 winners:
1st Prize will receive $250 worth of custom printing on a fabric from our stock plus a 45cm x 45cm cushion on waratah with their winning design, insert included.
2nd Prize will receive $100 worth of custom printing on a fabric plus a 45cm x 45cm cushion on waratah with their winning design, insert included.
3rd Prize will receive $50 worth of custom printing on a fabric plus a 45cm x 45cm cushion on waratah with their winning design, insert included.
All top ten designs will receive a strike-off of their design.

Last month we held a very successful class for those keen to learn the Photoshop basics to get their designs on fabric. It was a full class and a big day of discovering the program, having a play and opening up the world of digital fabric printing possibilities to some eager creatives. We all had fun even if there was a lot of material to cover and get a handle on, we can’t wait to see what the students come up with and print in the future!
Coming up on December 3 we have another exciting class to get the creative juices flowing and it couldn’t come at a more perfect time of the year. Our Design Your Own Product Workshop gives you a chance to have a play in Photoshop with some of the MANY manipulation options, and turn your photographs or artwork into a product ready for printing and gifting over the festive season. Two gifts in one really, you get the chance to discover the possibilities in Photoshop and learn about digital fabric printing, AND you have the option to have your creation printed at the end. Bonus!
If you’ve been dreaming of our own cushion prints or yoga leggings or even a statement scarf, Design Your Own Product is the workshop for you. This is a one day class focusing on the manipulation options in Photoshop and using these to develop a placement print ready for printing.
